Premier League Fixtures Week 16

Here are the Premier League Fixtures for this weekend and my predictions for the results.

I have decided to make it a bit more interesting and compare my predictions with Mark Lawrenson’s predictions from the BBC website. (Thanks to soccer blog for this idea) Lawro’s predictions are the one’s in green.

Saturday 6th December

Arsenal  V  Wigan  15:00  (3-0)  (2-0) (1-0)

Blackburn  V  Liverpool  15:00  (1-2)  (0-2) (1-3)

Bolton  V  Chelsea  15:00  (0-1)  (0-2) (0-2)

Fulham  V  Man City  12:45  (1-1)  (2-1) (1-1)

Hull City  V  Middlesbrough  15:00  (0-0)  (1-1) (2-1)

Man Utd  V  Sunderland  17:30  (4-0)  (3-0) (1-0)

Newcastle  V  Stoke City  15:00  (2-2)  (2-0) (2-2)

Sunday 7th December

Everton  V  Aston Villa  16:00  (2-1)  (2-2)  (2-3)

West Brom  V  Portsmouth  15:00  (1-0)  (2-0)  (1-1)

Monday 8th December

West Ham  V  Tottenham  20:00  (1-1)  (1-2)  (0-2)

So all the results are now in and I have decided to follow Monkey magazines point scoring allocation of 3 points for a perfect match, and 1 point for a correct result.

So after the first week of predictions the scores are as follows:

Myself:   10pts

Lawro:     7pts

Ronaldo Scoops Europen Player of the Year Award

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted the best player in Europe by France Magazine this morning in Paris. He is the first Premiership player since Michael Owen in 2001 to win the Ballon d’Or.

The award is given by a poll of 96 journalists, each voter names five players on their final ballot, awarding five points to their first choice and one point to their fifth. Ronaldo’s was the only name to appear on each of the 96 ballots, polling 446 points out of a maximum 480.

His goal scoring feats from last season helping Manchester United to the Premier League Crown, and the European Cup ensured Ronaldo would be the winner of this award. Lionel Messi finished in second place and Fernando Torres of Liverpool in third.

Do you agree with the judges and think Ronaldo was a deserving winner, or do you think another player deserved the award more?

The ‘Big Four’ Fail to Score!

This weekend for the first time in 16 years not on of the Premierships so-called ‘big four’ managed to find the net. Chelsea and Liverpool were both held at home 0-0. Man United were also held 0-0 away at Aston Villa, whilst Arsenal were beaten 3-0 away at Manchester City.

Do these results prove that the Premiership is getting better and that the other teams are slowly catching the top teams, or was it just a freaky weekend in football?

England Squad to Face Germany

  • Scott Carson
  • Paul Robinson (Replacement for Joe Hart)
  • David James

  • Wayne Bridge
  • Curtis Davies
  • Glen Johnson
  • John Terry
  • Jolean Lescott
  • Michael Mancienne
  • Micah Richards
  • Matthew Upson

  • Gareth Barry
  • Michael Carrick
  • Stewart Downing
  • Frank Lampard
  • Steven Gerrard
  • Shaun Wright-Phillips
  • Ashley Young

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor
  • Darren Bent
  • Peter Crouch
  • Jermain Defoe
  • Theo Walcott

I don’t know how everyone else feels but I am really pleased with the inclusion of Agbonlahor and Darren Bent. They have been 2 of the best forwards in England over the last couple of years but neither have ever really been given a chance playing for England.

Capello has stated that he will be using the Friendly against Germany as an experiment and helping him to get to know the players better which I think is a great idea. It will give the new faces a chance to prove themselves and not necessarily have to worry about the result which will help take the pressure off them.
